Accessibility

Conformance

blancdechine.org targets Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Automated Lighthouse audits score 100 for accessibility across all pages.

What we do

  • Semantic HTML5 throughout: proper landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer), heading hierarchy, and ARIA attributes where needed.
  • Minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text, verified against both light and dark color schemes.
  • Descriptive alt text on all images, including bilingual descriptions with museum accession numbers where applicable.
  • Full keyboard navigation with visible focus indicators. No interaction requires a mouse.
  • A skip-to-content link on every page.
  • Data tables use scope attributes and proper header associations.
  • Responsive layout tested from 320px to 2560px viewport width.
  • No content relies on color alone to convey meaning.

Known limitations

  • Inline SVG data visualizations embed text directly rather than providing separate accessible descriptions. We plan to add aria-label and long-description alternatives.
  • The downloadable PDF (94.6 MB) is not a tagged PDF and does not include structural accessibility features. The full report is available in accessible HTML.

Testing

We verify accessibility through automated tools (Lighthouse, axe-core) and manual keyboard and screen-reader testing (VoiceOver on macOS). Accessibility is checked before every release.
